About Alice

Teaching primarily inspires me becuase I love my subject, and love to help students realise their love for it too. I know from experience that loving a subject is only possible when a student feel competent in that subject, which is what I aim to do by not only solidifying their knowledge but also building their confidence.
Secondly, I know from my days in secondary school how important it is to have one-on-one support in subjects that a student feels less comfortable with, particularly when the teacher has a different teaching style to the learning style of the student. I therefore hope to give students a learning experience that is specially suited to them with a teacher who empathises with their needs.

About the lesson

My lessons focus heavily on student engagement with content, therefore methods such as active recall and mini quizzes are preferred over writing information out over and over on a page. I will work with a student to see which type of learner they are in order to teach the content as effectively as possible. Lessons can be for any type of student, however I do have experience working with students with learning disabilities whom I'm able to engage with and understand well. I myself have learning disabilities so understand the struggles they may face and how to tackle these issues by creating a tailored experience that optimises their learning. This may be, for example, physically acting out some of the processes a student is learning about in Biology of Chemistry, or making anecdotes that will help them remember what happens when. However for other students, this may involve recall by writing down what happens or explaining it back to me. Ultimately I recognise that every student learns differently, therefore will aim to tailor my lessons and teaching methodology around them.
I can tutor students at GCSE level in Chemistry, Biology and Maths, and at A level and IB level in Chemistry.
The length of lessons will once again be dependent on the students schedule, however normally lessons would be for around an hour and a half.
I obtained 45 points in the IB diploma in Chemistry, Biology and Philosophy HL and Maths AA, French and English SL.
