About Ben
I am a highly motivated university student majoring in English and Theatre Studies & Philosophy looking to share my academic skills and help to develop students' capacity and confidence. Literature, Language and Linguistics all give me great joy, and I am passionate about helping others deepen their engagement with texts & ideas. I have previously undertaken VCE English and VCE Literature, achieving excellence in each, and as such I believe I have a strong understanding of these subjects and their requirements.

. I aim to help students successively focus their conceptual, analytic and expressive capacities by guiding them into a unique framework for responding to set tasks.
. I believe that students achieve their best results when encouraged to develop discipline around their own unique skills and ideas, and these serve as a point of entry into otherwise abstract or intimidating tasks such as long text-response essays.
. I ask students to begin from associations they make between a text and a task, from which concepts and connective can develop with the help of certain conceptual exercises. These include developing vocabulary & vocabulary sets/groupings, formulating theses, testing theses against textual evidence and broadening textual perspectives by working in discussions of interpolated voices & ideas on a given theme or question. Through these techniques a student can more confidently grasp an appropriate response to their set task, and thereafter I engage with them in a process of writing and revising drafts.
