About Alejandro

I founded a business in 2020 and continued to develop it while pursuing my MBA. We specialize in data science, building predictive models through both binary and non-binary methods. Our mathematical approaches are typically a hybrid of geometric, statistical, and various regression methods. In the realm of Machine Learning, penalized regression often emerges as the most optimal among various regression methods, though there is a substantial emphasis on geometry.

I’ve always perceived statistics as the confluence of Geometry and Calculus. Calculus and Statistics pose challenges at the collegiate level primarily when instructors require the memorization of formulas. However, consistent practice is pivotal for becoming proficient in applying these formulas. I have a preference for this branch of mathematics over algebra, as solving for variables can sometimes be fatiguing. In Calculus and Statistics, rather than solving for variables, one inputs them into pre-existing, static function formulas.

Drawing a parallel with my background as a trained jazz pianist, understanding harmonic structures is tantamount to grasping the functional formulas of the language. The keys are merely variables; it is the steps of the process that hold paramount importance. Consequently, a robust foundational approach to calculus, geometry, and statistical exercises proves beneficial in applying quantitative reasoning and logic in real-life scenarios.

Learning mathematics is not an arduous task when explained well and kept engaging by a competent teacher.

Context:

I am tutoring a 10th-grade student, focusing on quantitative reasoning for the mathematics segment of their curriculum. The student has a basic understanding of algebra, geometry, and statistics, and they are aiming to enhance their problem-solving skills.

Teaching Method and Techniques:
1. Interactive Learning: I employ an interactive learning approach where I encourage students to participate actively by asking open-ended questions, solving problems, and discussing solutions.
2. Step-by-step Process: I breakdown complex problems into smaller, manageable steps, guiding the student through each step while fostering understanding of the underlying concepts.
3. Real-world Application: I relate the problems to real-world scenarios to make the concepts more relatable and engaging.
4. Assessment and Feedback: Regular assessments are conducted to evaluate progress, and immediate constructive feedback is provided to correct misconceptions and reinforce understanding.

Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Objective: Start with a clear objective, e.g., understanding the application of the Pythagorean theorem.
2. Review: Begin with a brief review of the previous lesson to reinforce prior knowledge and clarify any doubts.
3. Introduction: Introduce the new concept with a real-life example, e.g., calculating the distance between two points on a map.
4. Guided Practice: Solve several problems together, discussing each step to ensure understanding.
5. Independent Practice: Allow the student to solve problems independently, providing support when needed.
6. Discussion: Discuss the solutions, focusing on the reasoning and methodology.
7. Summary and Assignment: Summarize the main points of the lesson and assign homework to reinforce the learning.

What Sets Me Apart:
1. Adaptability: I tailor my teaching strategies to suit the individual learning styles and needs of each student.
2. Patience and Empathy: I create a supportive learning environment by being patient and empathetic, encouraging students to ask questions without fear of judgment.
3. Enthusiasm for Subject Matter: My passion for mathematics and quantitative reasoning is contagious, inspiring students to develop a genuine interest in the subject.
4. Technological Integration: I incorporate technology like online resources, educational apps, and interactive whiteboards to enhance learning and engagement.

Target Audience:
My lessons are primarily tailored for high school students, specifically those in the 10th grade who have a foundational understanding of algebra, geometry, and statistics. However, the adaptability in my approach allows me to modify the content and methodology to accommodate students with varying levels of proficiency and from different grades.

Conclusion:
As a tutor in quantitative reasoning, my focus is on cultivating an interactive and adaptive learning environment that caters to individual student needs, ensuring they grasp the underlying concepts and can apply them in real-world scenarios. The combination of my adaptability, patient demeanor, and enthusiasm for the subject matter aims to foster a supportive and engaging learning experience for students, ultimately aiding in their academic success.
