About Sophie

I'm a student in my second year of university in St Andrews, studying modules in Maths and Physics. As someone who has struggled with confidence and stress at times in my academics, I understand the impact that tutoring can have both on performance and confidence; I would like to be able to use my skills to help others in a similar situation.

I have experience both from tutoring and a teaching internship, and have developed my own methods of studying which I know work well.

I did Maths, Further Maths, Physics and English Literature at A Level. I'm also a keen musician, playing violin and piano, and enjoy doing various arty things in my free time.

About the lesson

Having worked out what style of learning and revision works for me, I hope to work with a student to help them find methods that will help make the process of learning much less daunting.

Having achieved A*s across all my A levels, I know how to work towards exams, but I believe there is much more to learning than that. Lessons will, of course, help students focus on the exam board specification aims, but also will allow students to explore the topics further to get a better understanding, beyond a list of things to memorise.

Lesson length depends on what will best suit the needs of the student, with age and attention span being considered, but will be between 45 mins and 1.5 hours.

I previously tutored a student in Maths for 1.5 years, and a student in German for 6 months, so I have experience in creating a connection with a student and developing techniques that best suit them.

My lessons are for Years 10-13 for Maths, and Years 10-11 for Physics.
