About Nathan

I am a 3rd year law student at the University of York, having averaged a 2:1 throughout both years, in my time at university I have engaged in varying simulations pertaining to real world scenarios which have acted to affirm my understanding of varying concepts of law.

Prior to university study I self taught myself law as it was not an option at my sixth-form to be able to answer an EPQ on EU law, having achieved an A in doing so - I feel this is a testament as to my understanding of how one is to learn the law, but also my ability to distil complex concepts without support from a trained educator.

About the lesson

Having achieved an LNAT score of 26 this ranks me as the average score for various top flight university applicants proving on par with LSE, whilst exceeding the average for applicants to Kings College and Durham. I feel this, coupled with my current two years of university study would couple to bolster my ability to assist individuals in this area.

With relation to the tutoring of GCSE law, having not studied the course directly in my build up to university, I feel as though my attainment of 2:1’s or higher throughout my studies denotes a particularly sound grasp of the law to be able to then grapple with the curriculum expected at a GCSE level and be able to then explain the concepts more readily.

I will look to work through resources during the lessons pertaining to the given option (GCSE law or LNAT). With respect to the GCSE law tutoring I would look to move through the entirety of the curriculum for the given exam board and look to focus on fostering an understanding of the law rather than merely adopt an approach of course information retention. My approach proves most successful in instances whereby the candidates are aware of potential issues or areas in which they struggle to then be able to address these topics directly before covering the other topics to affirm understanding.

I will work through workbooks concerning the LNAT and other online resources with the student to try best replicate the format of the exam, particularly focusing on the multiple choice section of the test given this is the result that can be levied by universities as an entry requirement. Although the written element of the test will still be covered, less stress will be afforded to it given its reduced relevance.
