About Rachel

I am a current student at UCD as well as being a UCD entrance scholar. I achieved 625 points in my leaving certificate in 2024, one of my favourite H1 subjects being Maths.

I offer tutoring in maths because I am passionate about this subject and want to help other students achieve top grades in their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams. Having recently completed these courses myself, I am very familiar with the exam structure, marking schemes and common mistakes students may make. My main aim in tutoring is to help students improve their results, through clear explanations, targeted practice and strong exam technique.

About the lesson

All of my lessons will be tailored to each student’s needs. Meticulous preparation will be put into creating a suitable plan with exam-based questions to suit the needs of the student and the topics they would like to cover, ensuring focused lessons and avoiding generalisation of topics.

I take student feedback very seriously and use it to focus on their weak points in topics, conditioning them for the final goal of their Junior/leaving Cert!

I am happy to offer in-person lessons, which I believe are especially effective for building understanding and confidence, particularly for students who benefit from face-to-face explanation. Online lessons can also be arranged if preferred.

Everything went very well with Nathan. He has a very strong grasp of differential calculus overall.
We started with rates of change, which is one of the more challenging topics in this chapter. While he understood the concepts, some additional practice would be beneficial. We also covered limits, along with trigonometric and exponential differentiation involving the product, quotient, and chain rules, all of which he was very competent in.
In our next lesson, I think it would be beneficial to focus more on applications of differential calculus and to work through some additional exam-style and past exam questions.
In the meantime, lots of practice is key—the revision exercises at the end of each chapter in the text and tests textbook are an excellent way of doing this.
