About Teresa

I am an academic and a tutor, with over 30 years' experience teaching in both the United Kingdom and abroad. Throughout my experience, I have always inspired my students to have confidence in their abilities and to achieve success in their goals, whether that is for an exam, university entrance or a business promotion.
I believe that everybody has the ability to succeed if they are shown how. I use a student-centred flexible approach to suit students' needs.
I have helped many students over the years to build their confidence through positive reinforcement and helping them to have many 'light bulb' moments.
I am an avid learner myself which is why I have so many qualifications! I use my learning experiences to help others achieve their aims. Much of my learning has been through foreign-language medium, so I know how challenging this can be. I know how great it feels to overcome challenges when studying a difficult subject. This is my area of expertise - helping you overcome challenges through a range of study techniques and confidence building.

About the lesson

My teaching techniques depend on the learner. I prefer a student-centred approach based on visual, auditory and kinaesthetic styles. I use positive reinforcement, real-life examples, scaffolding, feedback, enquiry-based learning, questioning and note-taking techniques to name but a few.
To get the most out of a lesson, I offer lessons of 1 hour.

I have a PhD and MA in Russian and Slavonic Studies, PGCE in MFL (French and Russian) with QTS, TESOL Cert, BA in Applied Language Studies. I am also a Chartered Linguist and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL).

My lessons are for all levels ranging from GCSE, A Levels, and support at university from levels 3-7.

I have over 30 years' experience teaching the following subjects in both schools and in higher education:
Academic Study Skills (all levels, including UK and international students)
EFL (CEFR A1-C2)
French (GCSE, A Level, CEFR A1- C2)
Russian (GCSE, A Level, CEFR A1- C2
Social Science (levels 3 and 7)
Sociology (Level 3)
Humanities (Levels 3 & 7)
