About Gloria

I am a Social Scientist who is calm, friendly, dedicated and committed to students that I teach. I live both in the United States of America and South Africa.

My primary objective is to ensure that my students excel. I am available to tutor students at all school levels who study English, mathematical literacy, social sciences which includes cultural studies, life skills, history, etc.

As a Senior Lecturer and Anthropologist, I am also available to e-tutor undergraduate students who study social sciences - anthropology or cultural studies, law, international relations, economic concepts and politics etc.

My expertise includes the supervision of graduate students. I am available to supervise or co-supervise students who need my services.

Brief Background

Over the years, I have tutored 250 students per semester and are currently teaching almost 2000 university students and is Manager of a number of e-tutors who assist with the teaching. My objective is to ensure that tutors provide excellent tutoring that motivates and enhances students learning that enables them to achieve academic success.

Students I tutored improved their results from average to excellent and those who performed poorly and were placed in my care improved their academic performance remarkably. I respond promptly to students, are punctual and eager to assist them in achieving excellent results. I provide motivational teaching which set students on their career paths.

Qualifications

I hold a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in South Africa and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University of South Africa (UNISA). I have over 10 years teaching experience and are still currently teaching.

About the lesson

As a PhD scholar my teaching methodology includes the following;

1: Interest and explanation. Coupled with the need to establish the relevance of content, I craft explanations that enable students to understand the material. This involves knowing what students understand and then forging connections between what is known and what is new.
2: Concern and respect for students and student learning. I am aware that good teaching is not making things hard for students and neither to frighten them. It is everything to do with benevolence and humility; it always tries to help students feel that a subject can be mastered. Therefore, my objective is to encourages students to try things out for themselves and succeed at something quickly.
3: Appropriate assessment and feedback – This principle is crucial involves using a variety of assessment techniques and allowing students to demonstrate their mastery of the material in different ways. It avoids those assessment methods that encourage students to memorize and regurgitate. It recognizes the power of feedback to motivate more effort to learn.
4: Clear goals and intellectual challenge – My objective is also set high standards for students. They also articulate clear goals. Students should know up front what they will learn and what they will be expected to do with what they know.
5: Independence, control and active engagement – I create learning tasks appropriate to the student’s level of understanding. They also recognize the uniqueness of individual learners and avoid the temptation to impose mass production standards that treat all learners as if they were exactly the same.
6: Learning from students – I believe in effective teaching and effective teaching refuses to take its effect on students for granted. While I teach it also enables me not to take what students say for granted but rather to learn from them in the interim.
