About Ava

After tutoring over 150 students in Spanish during the past 8 years, I've seen how personalized attention can completely transform how a student feels about the subject. I mostly work with high school and college students, and I know how challenging it can be to stay motivated in a large classroom or online course. That's why my lessons focus on interaction, clarity, and confidence. I always start by understanding what the student needs most—maybe it's passing a quiz, speaking more fluidly, or understanding what their teacher is really asking. From there, I build a flexible plan using a combination of grammar coaching, listening practice, conversational Spanish, and cultural context. I also pay close attention to the student's learning style. If they're visual, we use color-coded notes; if they're auditory, we use music and podcasts. One of my favorite tutoring experiences was with a student who loved film. We studied Spanish through short movie clips and ended up having full conversations about character development and plot—all in Spanish. It became more than just a class; it became a skill they felt proud of. My goal is to help you feel capable, not just prepared for an exam, but ready to actually use Spanish in your life.

I use a mix of interactive activities, authentic materials like songs and articles, and digital tools to keep learning fresh and exciting. Whether you’re learning Spanish for travel, school, career, or personal enrichment, I work to tailor lessons that make progress feel natural and achievable. I also emphasize the importance of practice outside of our sessions, providing resources and strategies to help you continue building confidence and fluency on your own. Ultimately, my mission is to help you enjoy the journey of learning Spanish while developing the skills and mindset to communicate effectively and authentically.
