About Billy
I began acting at the age of eight at a local theatre club and there I stayed for ten more years. The theatre had a professional in-house company which performed in rep (meaning they rehearsed one show by day and performed another by night) which we got free tickets to watch. Over the course of the ten years I was there I got to watch hundreds of performances which was incredibly beneficial to me as a young actor.
Over the years, I began to be used as a child actor in some of the main house professional productions which gave me my first insight into the professional backstage world. It also took away the *stars in their eyes, glitz and glamour* idea of theatrical life. Working in theatre is a magical job but I do also hold the firm belief that it is also "just" a job at the end of the day. I don't like actors with inflated egos who act as if they are in anyway more important than say, the Sound Assistant, simply because they are the ones on stage. Growing up around actors who treated their work without this ego was incredibly helpful for me as a child.
Skipping forward, at 18, I trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London on the three year acting course. I enjoyed this experience thoroughly and it gave me the skills and confidence in myself that I needed to move forward. After training, I was cast as an Actor & Puppeteer in the 10th Anniversary Tour of War Horse and toured the country for 18 months performing on some of the largest stages in the country. Following War Horse, I continued to work with puppets in a children's show at the Edinburgh Fringe. Then I moved on to work in the West End on the Production Ghost Stories that also continued on tour until COVID-19 forced the show to a close.
During the epidemic, I moved to Germany which is where I am still based. I come back to the UK routinely to perform (notably with the company Blackeyed Theatre in their performances of Frankenstein and Sherlock Holmes) but I am beginning to work as a performer and acting teacher in Germany which is a new and exciting endeavour for me, recently having worked at Cours Florent.

- When auditioning for Drama School and many subsequent auditions afterwards I began to notice a correlation. Often, the loudest and most confident in the waiting room never quite delivered in the audition. I try my hardest to avoid letting ego enter my work. Relying instead on the quality of the performance alone. My approach to acting is to focus on what matters. The moment. Everything else is superfluous.
- I can offer one hour lessons, longer if needed. It would be desirable to be sent your pieces of text beforehand so that I have a good idea of what we are working with the day before.
- In these lessons we will endeavour to strip back your performance to something that is true, believable and engaging. You will be an active performer not reciting something you've said time and time again but living and reacting in the moment. Alive and present.
- I should add, I'm a very friendly person who does care deeply about getting the best out of you. The classes will be fun. I'm a true believer in having a positive working environment to yield the best results.
