About Trisha

Hello, I'm Trisha. I'm an English tutor and professional writer based in the UK. Originally from Canada, I've lived in the UK since 1989, giving me a broad perspective on English and familiarity with both Canadian and British English.
I'm friendly, patient and approachable, and I believe that learning works best in a relaxed environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I take the time to understand what each learner wants to achieve and adapt my lessons accordingly.
I welcome children, teenagers and adults of all levels, and I'm happy to work on conversation, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension or creative writing.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is friendly, patient and tailored to each learner. I believe people learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and trying things for themselves, so I aim to create relaxed and encouraging lessons.

I adapt my teaching to the learner's age, level and goals. Depending on what you want to achieve, lessons might include conversation, reading, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension or writing. I also like to use interesting topics, stories and discussion to make lessons engaging rather than relying entirely on formal exercises.

For children and teenagers, I can provide support with school English, reading, writing, grammar, homework and creative writing. I am happy to use topics and activities that reflect their individual interests. For adults, lessons can focus on conversational English, improving fluency, writing skills, vocabulary or more formal and academic English.

Lessons are normally 45–60 minutes. For younger children, shorter sessions can sometimes work particularly well, depending on their age and concentration span.

I have a TEFL qualification, an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction), a BA in Politics, and I am currently completing a PhD in Criminal Justice Studies.

My formal tutoring experience is relatively recent and includes one-to-one English tutoring with an adult learner. Alongside this, I have extensive professional experience in writing, editing, research and communication. My background includes writing non-fiction for Oxford University Press and several years of interviewing and editing for an independent arts and culture publication.

I welcome learners of all ages and levels, from children beginning to develop their English skills to adults who want to become more confident speakers or improve their writing. I am particularly happy to work with learners who would benefit from a patient, supportive approach and personalised lessons.
