About Desmond

With 7 years of experience coaching singers of all levels, I bring both professional training and real-world performance experience to every lesson. My background includes vocal performance in live music venues, ensemble work in choirs, and solo shows across acoustic, jazz, and theatre genres. I've worked with children, teenagers, and adults—each with unique voices, goals, and stories—and helped them discover the joy of singing from a place of strength and authenticity. My approach is nurturing but rigorous. I care deeply about vocal health, which means all exercises and techniques I teach are based on sound physiological principles. I blend this with a love for creativity—helping students connect emotionally to the material they sing. I believe that confidence and technique go hand in hand. One cannot thrive without the other. Whether you're auditioning for a part or simply trying to sing in tune, I will walk with you every step of the way. Many of my students have gone on to perform publicly, pass music exams, or simply find joy in singing at family events and gatherings. What truly matters to me is not the stage or the applause—but your connection to your voice. I’m here to guide you towards vocal freedom, one breath, one note, and one breakthrough at a time.

About the lesson

In Sheffield, my singing lessons are designed as a transformative journey for your voice and your confidence. We start with foundational work—understanding your vocal range, breath support, posture, and tone production. I introduce students to diaphragmatic breathing and vocal warm-ups that strengthen control and expand range. Students often experience noticeable improvement in vocal strength and clarity within the first few sessions. These core skills form the bedrock for all genres, from pop to classical to musical theatre. As your technique grows stronger, we explore the expressive side of singing. Lessons are tailored around your musical preferences, with carefully selected repertoire to challenge and inspire you. Whether it's learning to belt in a pop song, navigate delicate phrasing in a jazz ballad, or deliver dramatic power in a Broadway solo, every song becomes a platform for technical growth. Emphasis is placed on phrasing, diction, dynamics, and interpretation—ensuring that you’re not just singing the notes, but telling a story with emotional impact. Performance skills are integrated into every phase of learning. We cover stage presence, microphone technique, overcoming stage fright, and managing nerves. I use live feedback, studio-style recordings, and mirror work to improve projection, posture, and authenticity. My students regularly participate in showcases, recitals, and online events. Whether you're singing for yourself, a loved one, or a large crowd, you’ll learn to own your voice and your space.
