About Jack
I'm a fiction writer and English teacher based in Chicago. I studied Spanish Literature at Loyola University Chicago, with minors in English and Philosophy. I'm currently writing a literary novel and applying to MFA programs in fiction.
I know language learning from both sides. I speak Spanish at a professional level, tutored university students in Spanish grammar and composition, and provided Spanish–English translation as a community health worker. I've taught English online to students at every level, including while living in Mexico City. I also work in Chicago schools, helping high school students with essay writing and revision.
What I enjoy most is the structure underneath a sentence: why one phrasing flows and another stalls. I help students see those patterns so they can start hearing the difference on their own.
Outside teaching, I'm a rock climber and have worked as a climbing instructor in Croatia.

My lessons are for advanced speakers who already communicate well but want their English to sound natural and precise.
We work through writing. When you speak, small habits slip past unnoticed. Writing slows you down and makes every sentence choice visible. Each lesson, you write a short piece (an email, an opinion, a story, something from your work), and we revise it together. We focus on how your sentences are built and how they flow: word order, connecting ideas, rhythm, and tone.
You'll learn why a phrase sounds slightly off to a native ear, not just how to fix it. Over time, the patterns you practice on the page become your instinct.
Lessons follow your goals, whether that's professional writing, academic work, creative writing, or everyday fluency.
