About Elena
I am an Afrikaner who moved to New Zealand in 2019. My lifelong passion for learning naturally evolved into a love for teaching, and I bring that enthusiasm into my lessons. Afrikaans is more than just a language to me, it’s part of who I am. I eat, sleep, and dream in my "taal" (language). Living in a foreign country has deepened my appreciation for my "moedertaal" (mother tongue). It made me realize how easily we take for granted the ability to express ourselves in our native tongue. That’s why I’m committed to sharing Afrikaans with others, as a language and a gateway to culture, connection, and personal growth.

Afrikaans Tutoring – Online or In-Person Whether you're just starting out or looking to deepen your understanding of Afrikaans, I offer flexible, engaging lessons tailored to your goals. Students can choose between: 1. Conversational Classes – Focused on everyday communication, helping you speak Afrikaans confidently in social settings. 2. In-Depth Language Study – Explore the rich history of Afrikaans, expand your vocabulary, improve grammar, and develop reading skills. Teaching Approach: I combine structured learning with real-world application. Lessons are interactive and adapted to each student’s pace and interests. I use a mix of storytelling, cultural context, and practical exercises to make the language come alive. Lesson Length Typical sessions run for 60 minutes, with options for shorter or extended lessons depending on your needs. My Experience I have a strong background in education, with experience designing learning activities that are both effective and enjoyable. My approach is student-centered, with a focus on building confidence and fluency. Who It's For Lessons are suitable for beginners to intermediate learners, including: Adults wanting to connect with the Afrikaans heritage Students preparing for travel or study Anyone curious about the language and its cultural roots
