Super Prof

Joel is one of our best Computer programming tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Joel

I currently work as a Senior Big Data & Software Engineer with a top consulting firm in the UK. I possess an MSc. in Advanced Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence and a BSc degree in Computer Engineering. I have relevant work experience in the software engineering industry and one year as a teaching assistant for Computer Engineering at the undergraduate level.

About the lesson

My target students are university and pre-university students. Also, you don't need to be a STEM student to receive my lessons. A decent high school level maths base is however necessary. My approach to teaching programming is practical (learning by doing); we move through the syntax by doing, and afterwards execute a basic project to tie it all together.

Review

All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Joel.

Perfect! Well planned lesson at the perfect pace.

Joel knowing both Python and Javascript was beneficial as he could relate the language I'm learning to the one I am already familiar with.

He adapted the pace nicely to match my level, not dwelling on what I already knew but not moving so fast that I missed or failed to understand anything either. Good use of screen share.

Would recommend.

Joel's response
Tutoring Ben was very fluid given he already has some programming experience. He easily catches on; even with somewhat newer concepts.

His explicit expectation of what he wants to achieve after taking lessons makes it easy for me to determine the direction to take to help him accomplish his goals.

Having had the opportunity to be coached by Joel on numerous occasions, he made me push the obstacles I faced during my lab sessions which involved programming in Python. Having said that, what makes Joel stand out is that his solution will not be just to remove the obstacle, rather explaining the scenario of my approach in programming, which in turn made me realize where exactly I went wrong and what measures I need to take to overcome the obstacle. I strongly believe that Joel tutoring anyone will make the person confidently engage in challenging programming situations just as the way I am now.

I've known Joel for a good number of years both professionally and personally. Great, selfless character. I'm a firsthand beneficiary of his tutoring. He has helped me navigate my design career (something outside of his usual expertise) and helped a couple of my friends as well improve their programming skills. His extensive knowledge in software engineering and artificial intelligence coupled with his product development experience puts him in an even better position to help people who would want to have a career in software development.

Joel came into my life when I needed tutoring the most. When it came to writing the GRE, I had almost given up, but he effortlessly taught me in the most simple words and I was able to pass and got great offers from schools in the U.S. I am currently finishing up my master's degree at the University of South Carolina.

Joel is thorough and is patient enough to find your weaknesses and address them to the core.

He is the best person to teach a relatively difficult subject like Python programming since he is not only very intelligent, but a great communicator, friend, and mentor.

Excellent grasp of programming concepts in general, with a patient approach to tutoring and making sure his students understand the "why" and not just the "how". Top lad!
