About Randolph

I am well qualified in Mathematics and have over 20 years of teaching experience. I enjoy helping students develop their skills and confidence. I teach Algebra with clear explanation, step by step coaching and enough practice. I believe all students can learn Mathematics if concepts are taught at the pace of understanding and learning of each student. I just don’t teach my students to find the right answer. I also make them understand the logic of each solution and fill the gaps in their basics and develop good problem solving strategies. If you need help with basic Algebra, or you need help with more advanced topics, or test prep, I am patient and offer structured and individualized tutoring. I want to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes and learn thru practice. I want all learners to leave every lesson with an increased level of understanding, improved skills and the confidence to be successful in Mathematics.

About the lesson

I teach concepts before procedure when I teach advanced Algebra. I want learners to know the meaning, the relationships, and the basics of each topic, not just memorize formulas or steps. I teach a concept explicitly and then reinforce the learning with guided exercises. Then I go into independent practice, a formative assessment that tests to see if students can confidently and accurately apply what they’ve learned. I am an alternative Algebra Tutor with a strong academic background in Mathematics and many years of teaching experience. I want to make algebra clear, helpful and easy for the students who may find it intimidating or difficult when they first see it. The goal is not only to provide students with the answers, but also to make them understand the logic and reasoning behind each step so that they can develop better problem solving skills and increase their confidence in their logical thinking. I also know that learners differ in the ability and speed of learning and in their preparation. If I have a student who is struggling, I try to get past the immediate struggle and see if there are any gaps in the prerequisite knowledge. I then work thru these basics systematically, building up the student’s understanding, skills and confidence. I teach algebra college and university students. I can help you in Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra, including preparing you for quizzes, tests, entrance examinations or any other academic need. I also tutor students who want to review basic algebra skills or prepare for more complex math such as precalculus and calculus. Depending on the need of the learner the lessons could be algebraic expressions, polynomials, factoring, linear formulas and inequality, systems of equations, exponents, radicals, rational expressions, functions, quadratic formulas and word problems in math. What I ultimately hope to see is students going from unsure and hesitant learners of Algebra, to students who understand the processes of mathematics, can articulate their thoughts, and can solve problems with confidence and independence.
