About Benjamin

Hello! I am a native English speaker from Pennsylvania and a dedicated Economics undergraduate. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to learn a new language. I’ve studied Spanish for six years, earning a C1-level Certificate of Spanish for Business, and am currently picking up Portuguese. Because I have successfully navigated the language acquisition process myself, I understand the common roadblocks and know exactly how to guide you past them.

To give you peace of mind about who you are learning from, I take my education and professional commitments very seriously. I am currently an Economics student at Florida International University, maintaining a 3.5 GPA.

On campus, I serve as the Treasurer for the United Human Rights Foundation and am an award-winning delegate in Model United Nations, frequently placing first or second at conferences. These roles require high-level public speaking, debate, and formal writing skills that I actively pass on to my students. I maintain a high standard of professionalism in every session, and my goal is to provide a reliable, supportive environment to help you succeed.

Who These Lessons Are For
I work with teenagers, university students, and adult professionals, generally focusing on intermediate to advanced levels. Whether you are an international student preparing for coursework in the US, a professional needing to polish your business vocabulary, or just someone looking to converse more naturally with native speakers, my classes will be a great fit.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
I focus heavily on conversational application rather than dry, textbook memorization. We will use real-world materials like news articles, everyday dialogue scenarios, or professional emails.

I am very patient and keep my classes relaxed because making mistakes is just part of the process! Instead of interrupting you mid-sentence, I typically take notes while you speak. This way, we can review corrections together without breaking your conversational flow. Also, since I am fluent in Spanish, I can easily explain tricky English concepts or clarify doubts if Spanish is your native language.

A Typical Lesson Plan
I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, so we will tailor our lessons to exactly what you need. However, a standard 1-hour session usually looks like this:

Warm-up (10 mins): Casual, relaxed conversation about your week or current events to get you comfortable speaking.

Core Focus (30-40 mins): Working on our targeted goal for the day. This could be running through a mock job interview, reading and debating an article, or practicing specific vocabulary for travel and everyday life.

Review (10 mins): Going over the notes I took during the lesson to gently iron out any confusing grammar rules or pronunciation issues so you sound clear and natural.

Having worked for years in fast-paced customer service and team-oriented roles, I know how to adapt quickly to different learning styles and make people feel comfortable right away. Furthermore, my active background in debate and public speaking allows me to teach you not just how to speak English, but how to speak it with confidence.
