About Tanaka
I work across design, research, and visual communication. Through my independent practice, I explore identity systems, spatial thinking, and the relationship between language and meaning. My background in architecture informs my approach to teaching; with care, curiosity, and an emphasis on asking the right questions. I'm especially interested in helping students translate abstract ideas or speculative thinking into something concrete, whether that’s through drawing, writing, or physical models. I value clarity, not simplification, and I’m drawn to the moment where thinking becomes action, where design starts doing something.

I believe everyone learns differently, so I tailor each session to how you think and work. I primarily tutor university students and adults, with sessions usually running for 60 minutes and focused on developing clarity, confidence, and critical thinking across design, writing, or architecture-related topics.
We’ll also work together to identify any roadblocks you’re facing and create a plan to help you move forward with intention. Whether you’re working through a design project, writing task, or portfolio challenge, my aim is to support your thinking, not just correct your work.
