About Ivor
Hello! My name is Ivor, and I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. For the past eight years, I have been living in the Philippines as an expat with my wonderful wife and our two children.
I have been teaching for more than 8 years and genuinely enjoy helping students build confidence, improve their communication skills, and achieve their learning goals. My teaching style is patient, friendly, and supportive, and I believe that every student can succeed with the right guidance and encouragement.
I hold two bachelor's degrees: one in Criminology with a specialization in Forensic Science and another in Culinary Arts and Hotel & Restaurant Management. I proudly served for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Military Police Officer. After retiring honorably from the Marines, I continued my career in public service as a Police Officer in Pennsylvania, eventually retiring with the rank of Captain in the Homicide Division.
While serving as a police officer, I also pursued my passion for cooking as the Executive Chef and owner of my own Italian restaurant. In addition, I am a Certified Paramedic and a Christian Pastor. Needless to say, I have always enjoyed staying busy and embracing new challenges.
Outside of teaching, I am passionate about martial arts. I am a Sensei in Aikido, a longtime student of Judo, and I have recently begun studying Arnis here in the Philippines. I also enjoy scuba diving and cave exploration (spelunking), activities that allow me to appreciate nature, discipline, and adventure—qualities that I bring into my classroom as well.
I have been blessed with a healthy and fulfilling life and am the proud father of four children ranging in age from 6 to 45 years old. I enjoy meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I am committed to helping my students succeed. Whether you are learning English for work, travel, school, or personal growth, I will take all the time necessary to support you on your English-learning journey.
