About Sherry

When Sherry Hagen discovered the joy of coloring at three years old, she began her life as an artist. All children love art and to draw. Yet, Hagen's creativity continued as a way of surviving personal trauma and sending healing connections to the world. During high school, she became friends with her art teacher Helen Waalkens who admired the young artist's artwork and praised her with encouraging words. In her last year, she was awarded the Top Senior Artist Award in the class. Inspired by Ms. Waalkens, she wanted to pursue an art education. She graduated with honors and received an art scholarship. This enabled Hagen to attend the National College of Education. There her budding creativity connected with others. She bloomed. After art school, Hagen won ribbons and cash awards in art shows and contests. She enjoyed the competition, recognition and success. Her passion to improve her artwork drove her more until ultimately exhibiting art in Chicago, IL Evanston, IL and Clintonville, WI venues. People were excited about her images. Some interested people commissioned her to create sculpture and draw portraits. Also, she instructed both adults and children at community and activity centers such as the 4H, Girl Scouts, Day Camps, Boys and Girls Clubs, retirement centers and other places. Her painting continued throughout the years touching more and more lives with her images. Hagen, who once the little girl who colored pictures, fulfilled her dream of becoming an artist. She looks forward to sharing what she makes for viewers. During the outbreak of Covid-19 she completed a series of paintings which reflected her feelings and experiences. Surrounded by death and despair, she found a healing light. Her subjects are about day-to-day life as well as the world of work. She puts hope in each piece of work. Currently, Hagen is preparing for an exhibit in Menomonie, WI where she resides with her husband.

About the lesson

My lessons are fun, engaging and based on the students interests and needs. I have been teaching art for over ten years. There are videos available on YouTube of my teaching style. I am currently getting ready for a local art exhibition.
