About Drfunk
Richmond, VA shaped me into who I am today. I grew up surrounded by art, business, and community thanks to my parents, who are both Asian-American immigrants, as well as entrepreneurs and leaders in their local communities.
During college and post-graduation, I was known for bringing people together — from music marketing and hosting funky house parties, to emceeing major music festivals. Eventually, I entered the corporate world head-on, becoming nationally ranked by Verizon for my customer service and sales. I then used that experience to manage a brewery for 8 years, where I earned our business a number of accolades including being listed Top 50 Breweries in the world by USA TODAY. But the desire to have more freedom and creativity for myself eventually gave life to my creative alter ego: "Dr. Funkenstein", which is a shout-out to one of my favorite musical groups, the legendary George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.
I moved to Miami to dive headfirst into a city where art, music, and culture collide. My goal was simple: paint anything I can get my hands on, collaborate with brands, and network with as many people as I can! Over time, that mission grew into something BIGGER — building a supportive community that gives artists an opportunity they may not find in a competitive art industry or their average gallery.
It all started with a small rooftop gathering during Art Basel 2023, and has now grown into my most popular community event called Rooftop Fam. Over the past 2.5 years, I have now added 360+ artists to our collective of creatives I refer to as The F.A.M. (Funky Art Movement) and have featured through my collaborative events.
Through popularity and demand, Rooftop Fam has enabled me to partner with venues to curate a wide range of art events designed to connect local artists, brands, influencers, and art collectors, including this year's "Funk Basel" events.
Everything I do is built around my motto that: "A high tide raises all ships", meaning if we can all support each other as a community, our brands can grow together and we all win in the end.
In my time here in Miami, I’ve also taught workshops and classes at studios including Fluid Bear Workshop, Majorwavez Lab, and Custom Kickz Workshop, helping over 6,000 students explore their creativity over the last two years.
Along the way, I’ve collaborated with incredible artists, brands, and venues, including Atomiko, Porti, Chummy's Customs, Museum of Graffiti, Nesquik, ZigZag, Gates Hotel, Buro Gallery, Grails Miami, and many more.
My journey is about more than just painting — it’s about creating a culture where people feel welcomed, inspired, and supported.
