First I tell about my self, who am I as an instructor or a tutor, tell my achievements, why I love to teach and tell my rules then I let the students tell about themselves what is their dislikes and like, know their hobbies and what they already learned and what they want to learn before I proceed to teach and step by step, start from basic before I teach the harder.
