About Lachlan
Hi, I'm Lachlan. I'm a first-year student at the University of Canterbury, working towards a BSc with a double major in astronomy and physics. Being a student myself, I know just how much a good teacher can make a difference. The right explanation can change a dreaded subject into something that can even be fun, and that changes how a student sees themselves. I want to be that teacher for my students. I'm friendly, patient, and I want to help you become confident in yourself

Lessons with me are about finding where a student's understanding breaks down, and working on that specific area instead of trying to re-teach it all. Most students already have a decent grasp of a topic and just need help with one link in the chain that I can help strengthen. I'll teach the reasoning behind each method, so the student can rebuild them under exam pressure instead of just memorizing steps and making sure that every point is explained with no random jumps.
Typically lessons will go for about 60 minutes and will focus on whatever you're working on, whether it be a new topic, internal, or exam prep. We'll work together through some problems, so that you can leave and do it independently. I'll teach some of the question types that you commonly see in NCEA standards, as well as any traps often seen in exams, and exam strategy and tricks.
I've been tutoring for about 6 months to great success. Passed Scholarship Physics and Scholarship Statistics, finished NCEA Level 3 endorsed with Excellence, and am experienced in exam preparation. I'm currently studying astronomy and physics at the University of Canterbury.
My lessons are best suited for NCEA students in Years 11 to 13 (Levels 1 to 3), from those who need help getting ahold of the basics to those aiming for Excellence or Scholarship.
