About James

I am a Royal Television Society nominated filmmaker with an MA in screenwriting and film theory as well as a BA in Directing and film theory from Middlesex Uni in London.
My films have been screened at the British Film Institute as well as several International film festivals. I have written several essays on a variety of film theory areas and have also written reviews for a small publication.
I work on a variety of projects that include: Music Videos; Docs; Corporate; Camera Work and have mentored several undergrad students whilst on my MA.

About the lesson

My lessons are either practical or theory based (or both if required) and are written to suit.

Practical: This will involve meeting face to face and using filmmaking equipment to learn the basic elements of video production. This will culminate in an independently created video by the student. Loads of Fun!!

Theory: This will cover the fundamental theoretical areas of film through web lectures. Following the lecture, the student will watch a chosen film in time to discuss in detail on the following session - before moving to the next lecture. This is great for the technophobes who love cinema but are not practically minded.

*Students will not be required to write an essay/thesis unless desired. Instead, you will be asked to write a short weekly blog entry to act as a record of your learning journey.

Practical:

- 5- 9 people £25pp (only if space is large enough)
- 10 or more will need to be discussed as location hire will be needed

Online:
- £18pp (Minimum 3, Max 5 people)

Online is NOT an option for the practical lessons (You can't learn production methods without holding the equipment)
