About Louis

I am a helpful and enthusiastic tutor who has always enjoyed English Literature. Since completing my GCSE, I have wanted to build an expertise in essay writing. To do this I aimed to complete a degree in a essay based subject. Recently, I achieved a 1st class degree in Philosophy at King's College London. This is a subject which holds a number of key parallels to English Literature. In Philosophy you are expected to construct well-written arguments based on a close reading of difficult texts. I have found that this skill translates particularly well into English Literature, which also requires essay writing, argumentative, and analytical abilities.

During my time at university, I have also been awarded a number of prizes. For example, I received an award in Metaphysics where I achieved the highest mark in the module due to a particularly strong essay. Another being a Gold Crown award, which I was given for my contributions to the Philosophy Society as treasurer.

Throughout my time throughout school and university, I have found myself teaching friends and course-mates subject content and methods to excel in examinations. More often than not they found my advice and explanations helpful, and their grades improved as a result of this. I would like to use my abilities and competencies as a tutor to help you achieve your very best in your chosen subjects. I now have gained experience doing online tutoring and have provided my students with help understanding subject content and improving their understanding of answering long form questions.

About the lesson

I am offering tutoring services in GCSE English Language & Literature. Regardless of your strengths and weaknesses, I will not only ensure that you meet your targets, but I will also to the best of my ability make sure that you develop a deep passion and understanding for English.

My lessons will be adapted to your individual needs. Prior to our meeting, I will ask for key information to help me to determine these needs, and any further goals or weak points that you may have identified with respect to your studies. If you have something specific that you want to improve on, then prior to the lesson I will prepare resources created to resolve any of these uncertainties. These resources will include detailed explanations and exam-based practice questions to chart your progress. We will work through these answers together to build your confidence in English. If instead you don’t have any specific concerns but merely want to improve upon your overall ability, then I will work through the specification with you one step at a time. After you have had a lesson at school, we will go over the content once again – attempting to think of alternative ways of framing the content so that you can strengthen your comprehension. Alongside these explanations, I will also provide you with further exercises and questions to track your development and identify strengths and weaknesses in that topic. I will then set you homework to complete to resolve any of these weak points, and also to further solidify your understanding of the topic.
