About Nana
Hailing from Amsterdam, Nana Kruger is a vocalist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist whose work blends strength in vulnerability, rich sonic color, and visual lyricism, inviting listeners into an intimate conversation they didn’t know they needed. Her practice explores womanhood, psychological safety, and transformation through sound. She recently graduated summa cum laude from The New School’s Master’s program in Jazz and Contemporary Music, where she received the Performer-Composer Dean’s Award. Rooted in intuition, body, and truth, her work moves between music and performance as spaces of reflection and care. Nana has performed at North Sea Jazz Festival, Paradiso, and The Stone, and collaborated with artists including Ruben Hein and Zuco 103. Now based in New York, she continues to develop immersive, cross-disciplinary work and sonic research.

Hi! I'm Nana.
I'm a vocalist, composer, and educator from Amsterdam, currently based in New York. I recently graduated Summa cum laude with high honors from The New School's Master's program in Jazz and Contemporary Music, where I received the Performer-Composer Dean's Award.
I grew up in a family of musicians, my father is a drummer and producer, and my mother is a poet and songwriter. From a young age, I was surrounded by rehearsals, performances, songwriting, and creative collaboration, which taught me that music is not just a skill, but a way of connecting with ourselves and with others.
Because of that, my approach to teaching is very personal. I encourage students to learn through self-exploration, curiosity, and experience!
I started teaching voice to students of different ages and levels over 5 years ago, and I’ve developed a flexible approach that adapts to each student’s needs. I teach beginner piano too.
What to expect:
- Beginner to advanced levels (all ages)
- Voice technique and artistic development
- Jazz, classical, and contemporary repertoire
- Improvisation and creativity
- Songwriting
- Audition and performance preparation
My goal is to help you feel more free in your voice and more connected to the music you are making!
Recommendations

I have studied singing with Nana and highly recommend her as a teacher. She is an incredible vocalist and brings that experience into every lesson. What I appreciate most is her ability to combine strong vocal technique with encouragement and patience, creating a supportive environment where I feel comfortable learning and growing. This was also super significant and special for me!
One of my favorite parts of our lessons is hearing her demonstrate concepts; her musicianship makes everything clearer and more inspiring. Nana is knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely invested in her students' progress. I always leave our sessions feeling motivated and with new tools to improve my singing. Absolutely recommend her to whomever is willing to explore their voice and get closer to music :)
I met Nana when I was studying abroad in Amsterdam. I am originally a saxophone player and I wanted someone who had extensive music theory and harmony knowledge to teach me singing because I wanted to be able to translate my studies in saxophone. She exceeded my expectations and taught me a completely new way to sing and engage with melody.
Nana was my teacher back in the Netherlands when I lived there for a year, and I’m so happy I can take lessons with her again now that she’s here. She’s an amazing teacher! Very personal in her approach. She truly takes the time to understand her students and creates a supportive environment where you can grow with confidence. Highly recommended!
