About Jason
As a kid, the only thing I ever dreamed of being when I grew up was an author. I thought all I needed to do was write and it'd happen. Now what I wrote had some potential - it was good, but it wasn't great. It lacked many of the fundamentals of creative writing that make a story work.
It's not enough to have an exciting idea or a way with words like Keats. A story needs to be told effectively for it to work.
It wasn't until I learned about some of the creative writing foundations that I found my own.
I'm currently writing my third book (the first in a series).

About the lesson

I take a structured approach to writing, offering students an insight into how stories are written and also how to ensure that what they write isn't just good, but great.
At the start, I take students through the fundamentals of good writing, e.g. scene and sequel, showing vs telling and character and world building.
I also like to work through the rhythm of language and how essential that can be in great story telling
Once the fundamentals are understood, the lessons become about the writing itself, what works and what doesn't, drawing inspiration from existing works and how and where to use imagery and metaphor etc.
I take a gentle hands on approach and guide my students through their work offering regular feedback.
