About Mia

Hi! My name is Mia and I have been working in educational settings for the past five years. I have recently graduated college with a bachelors degree, however I am still studying to earn my masters degree in special elementary education. Receiving extra support in school is something that is so important and something that will make you feel and perform like the student you may aim to be. As someone who has been both a tutor and someone who has received tutoring, it is an experience that is truly valuable to carry with you throughout your academic career. I intend to ensure the support that each student deserves and to apply whatever practices deemed necessary. Having worked with students of all ages, I am looking forward to assisting students in several different age groups, but prioritizing an elementary grade since that is the centralization of my major. Thank you for your consideration, and hopefully we will be collaborating soon!

When teaching a lesson, it is definitely always a goal to try and include both large group and small group settings where students are able to demonstrate their understandings. This allows myself to overview the class or group as a whole and see who may or may not be flourishing with the material. From there, it is important to strategically partner up the students with a peer who they will be able to work efficiently with. If a student is struggling with their tasks, it would be beneficial for them to receive some one on one help in order to identify where their misunderstandings occur the most. This is a convenient and purposeful method that I use throughout my lessons and normally can apply to any subject being taught.
A typical lesson plan would consist of a hook to introduce the lesson, learning objectives, assessments, materials, instructional plans that include both guided and independent practice, and a closing. The instructional plan is where the large group and small group activities will take place and will lead to my impression of how the students are able to both cooperate with each other and how they are applying their comprehension skills.
Personally, as a tutor I have mostly worked with special education college students on campus and I would help them complete their work for their classes, on top of joining them in class to assist their note takings. I have had experience in helping students with several different subjects areas and have been able to watch them succeed throughout their academic journeys. I have also worked with elementary students during my student teaching placements throughout my undergrad. As a special education major, I would often work with the students who have IEPs in the general classroom and provide them with one on one assistance whenever necessary. This age group is where I would like to focus my online tutoring to further my experience with elementary students since that is where I would like to be teaching next year. I believe this would be an extremely profitable and rewarding opportunity and I would be grateful to be able to help any student who is seeking extra support.
