About Riona
Hello! I'm Miss Riona. I began my cello studies at the age of five at the internationally renowned Colburn School in Los Angeles. I was inspired to play the cello at a young age when I saw a Sesame Street segment featuring Yo-Yo Ma playing his cello for Elmo. And I was beyond thrilled to be able to meet Ma years later when I was invited to attend a masterclass he taught in 2023 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I studied cello throughout elementary and high school, and completed the Suzuki Cello School Course (graduating from Books 1 through 10). I have performed as a soloist, a pit musician for musicals, in orchestras and ensembles, for religious services, and I earned my Suzuki teaching credential at the Suzuki School of Newton, Massachusetts and the Oregon Suzuki Institute. I recently taught in Tribeca, NYC and have now relocated back to L.A. I will come to your home for weekly lessons with your child, provided you live near downtown Los Angeles or in the San Fernando Valley. I also offer online lessons. I look forward to meeting you and your child, and instilling a lifelong love of the world's most beautiful instrument - the cello!

I am available to take on a few new students. If you are the parent of a youth wanting to learn to play the cello, I will introduce your child to the instrument and work through Book 1 of the Suzuki Cello School with them. Every child can learn to play with proficiency, and we can have fun and enhance our appreciation and joy of music as we go!
