About Brenda

I originally developed my entire teaching approach at home, helping my own bilingual children build strong English skills long before I ever considered teaching professionally for a living. Eight years into now working with other families, I've guided approximately one hundred forty-five students, mostly children and teenagers, using largely the same warm, patient methods that worked at my own kitchen table. I'm not formally trained as a teacher in the traditional academic sense, and I say that honestly, because my real credential is years of hands-on experience actually raising bilingual children successfully myself. Parents specifically seek me out because they want a genuinely gentle, family-style approach rather than something that feels clinical or overly academic for their young children. My teaching style is warm, patient, and deeply nurturing, built on real, lived experience rather than purely theoretical training from a classroom or textbook alone. I take real pride in watching a shy child gradually build genuine confidence speaking English, the exact transformation I watched happen with my own kids years earlier. Many families who start with me stay for years, watching their children grow from nervous beginners into genuinely confident young speakers over time. After eight years, I remain genuinely passionate about teaching English the same warm way I once taught my own family at home.

Everything I teach was tested first on my own children at our kitchen table, long before I ever took on a paying student, so my methods are genuinely family-tested rather than purely theoretical. We start with everyday, practical language, the kind used at home and school, because that's exactly what worked for my own kids learning to navigate daily life confidently. I use a lot of repetition disguised as games, since I learned early on that children and even many adults absorb language far better through play than through direct memorization alone. Reading together is a core part of every lesson, choosing books slightly above a student's comfort level so vocabulary grows naturally through genuine context rather than isolated word lists. I keep corrections gentle and encouraging, the same tone I used raising my own children through their own language learning wobbles and mistakes along the way. Speaking practice happens constantly through real conversation about a student's actual day, interests, and life, rather than scripted textbook dialogues nobody actually relates to. I check in regularly on confidence, not just accuracy, because I watched firsthand how confidence affects a young learner's willingness to keep trying new things. Every lesson stays warm, patient, and genuinely encouraging, the exact tone I'd want for my own child learning something new.
