About Anya

At school, I won the Proxime Accessit award, which means that I am the second highest academic achiever in the school.

I speak both English and Russian like a native speaker. I speak without an accent in either language, so if you choose me as a language tutor, you will benefit from hearing the perfect pronounciation of words.

I have an unconditional offer to the University of Edinburgh for Informatics, which is a course that teaches computer science and artificial intelligence. I love science which is why I enjoy teaching maths.

About the lesson

I teach beginner English and beginner Russian, as well as maths up to the GCSE/National 5 level.

I try and keep the lesson light-hearted so that the student enjoys learning a subject more.

I teach English and Russian through a mixture of textbook work, interesting news articles that are simplified to the beginner level and through books designed for language learners. I find using a variety of materials helps students stay more engaged.

While teaching maths I use analogies to help the student grasp certain concepts. I try to give problems for students to solve that are challenging to a reasonable extent.

I typically teach one hour sessions, once or twice a week, but I am flexible and would be happy doing longer or more frequent lessons. If the lesson lasts more than an hour then I will give the student a break in the middle so that they can re-gain their focus.
