IB HL Biology Graduate and SFU University Student Helping Students Build Confidence and Excel in Biology As a current university student at SFU and a graduate of the IB Diploma program with HL Biology, I understand both the academic demands and the stress that can come with a challenging science course. I’ve experienced the same fast pace, content-heavy syllabus, and pressure to perform, so I know exactly how to guide students through it in a clear and structured way. I approach every session with preparation, patience, and clarity. My goal is to make biology more understandable, help students develop strong study habits, and give them strategies that actually work in IB exams. I take pride in being approachable and creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building their confidence step by step. My experience as both an IB graduate and a university student allows me to connect with students on a personal level, while still maintaining a professional, focused approach to teaching. Students can trust that they’re learning from someone who truly understands the course and how to succeed in it. I care about helping students not just memorize information, but genuinely understand it and feel capable of reaching their goals. About the lesson

As a current university student at SFU and a graduate of the IB Diploma program with HL Biology, I understand both the academic expectations and the challenges students face in this subject. My teaching methodology focuses on making complex topics easier to grasp by breaking them down into logical, clear explanations and showing how they fit together as part of a bigger picture.
I use a combination of concept-based learning, active recall techniques, and exam strategy to help students build both understanding and confidence. Instead of relying on memorization alone, I guide students to truly understand how biological systems work, which makes exam preparation much more effective.
A typical lesson often includes:
A quick review of previously learned material to reinforce key ideas
Targeted explanation of new or difficult concepts with diagrams and examples
Practice with real IB-style questions and data-based problems
Clear takeaways and study tips for independent review
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I’ve experienced IB HL Biology as a student myself. I know the structure of the course, the exam style, and the strategies that work best.
