About Niamh
Hi! I'm a 4th year Integrated Master's student studying Biomedical Genetics, currently researching childhood mitochondrial diseases. I've always loved helping others, especially young people, and I'm genuinely excited to bring that passion into tutoring. Working in research has taught me how to break down complex ideas into something manageable and clear, which I think is exactly what makes a difference when a student is stuck on something that feels overwhelming. I'm new to tutoring, but I'm enthusiastic, patient, and committed to learning what works best for each student I work with. I want lessons to feel supportive and encouraging, where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, and where progress (however small) gets celebrated. My research keeps me curious about how things work at every level, from cells to whole systems, and I try to bring that same curiosity and energy into how I teach!

I'll start by getting to know the student (what they find tricky, what clicks for them, and how they learn best) rather than using the same approach for everyone. I had a tutor myself growing up, and what helped most was them adjusting to how I actually learned, not just repeating things slower. I want to bring that same mindset. Lessons will mix explaining, working through examples together, and practice, with regular check-ins to make sure it's really sinking in. I also want sessions to feel low-pressure so students feel comfortable asking questions and getting things wrong. Since I'm new to tutoring, I'll pay close attention to what works and keep adjusting as I go!
