About Sphelele
Hello! I’m Sphelele, a Biotechnology postgraduate student with experience tutoring Microbiology since 2024. I have a strong academic background in Biotechnology and Microbiology, as well as practical experience supporting university students in their learning.
As a tutor, I believe that understanding is more important than simply memorising information. I aim to create a comfortable and supportive learning environment where students can ask questions, work through challenging concepts and develop confidence in their abilities. I adapt my lessons to each student’s needs and use clear explanations, practical examples and active questioning to help make difficult topics easier to understand.
I have experience working with university-level Microbiology students and have also taken on teaching responsibilities when required. My goal is to help students not only improve their academic performance, but also develop the understanding and study skills they need to become more independent learners.
Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an assessment, or simply want to strengthen your understanding of Microbiology, I will work with you patiently and professionally to help you reach your academic goals.

My approach to tutoring is centred on making complex Microbiology concepts clear, practical and easy to understand. I focus on understanding the student’s individual learning needs and adapting my teaching style accordingly, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
My lessons are interactive and student-focused. A typical lesson begins by identifying areas that the student finds challenging, followed by a clear explanation of the relevant concepts using simple examples, diagrams and real-world applications. I then use questions and problem-solving activities to check understanding and encourage the student to explain concepts in their own words. Where appropriate, I also provide guidance on study techniques, exam preparation and how to approach difficult questions.
I am proficient in **English and isiZulu** and can teach in either language where appropriate.
My lessons are primarily aimed at **university and undergraduate Microbiology students**, particularly students studying introductory and intermediate Microbiology. I can also assist students who need additional support with foundational biological concepts. As a Biotechnology postgraduate student and experienced Microbiology tutor, I bring both academic knowledge and practical tutoring experience to my lessons.
My goal is not simply to help students memorise information, but to help them understand the underlying concepts, develop confidence and become more independent learners.
