About Megan

I have an M.A. in English and have over five years of experience tutoring students of all ages: from as young as 2nd grade to graduate students in college. At heart, I’m someone who genuinely loves communication and stories — the way a well-crafted sentence, paragraph, chapter, or book can clarify a thought, tell a story, or open a new way of seeing the world. This love is precisely what first drew me to pursue a graduate program in English, and it’s what continues to guide my work with students.

I know that reading and writing can sometimes feel overwhelming or intimidating, especially for students living in the height of a fast-paced society learning to grapple with AI. My goal is to make reading and writing in all its manifestations manageable and even empowering for others. I combine high academic standards with patience and encouragement, helping students not only improve their skills but also build confidence in their own ideas. It is important to me that students find their own personal connection to the subject we are working with, so that motivation can begin to shift from extrinsic to intrinsic as they progress through escalating curriculum.

Whether I’m guiding a young reader as they strengthen comprehension skills or working with a college student on advanced literary analysis or a polished research paper, I bring structure, clarity, and genuine investment in each student’s growth. I care deeply about helping students succeed — not just in one assignment, but in developing skills they’ll carry with them long-term.

Outside of tutoring, I do love reading, writing poetry, watching movies, and being outside: I do lots of birdwatching, running, and hiking! It's great to "meet" you! :)

About the lesson

With an M.A. in English and over five years of tutoring experience for students of all ages, I take a structured, student-centered approach that builds both skill and confidence. I have experience working in small group and 1:1 situations with students from 2nd grade through college, meeting them at their level and helping them develop clear, lasting reading and writing strategies.

My teaching focuses on clarity, organization, and critical thinking. For younger students, I strengthen reading comprehension and foundational writing skills. For middle school, high school, and college students, I emphasize thesis development, literary analysis, essay structure, and revision techniques. I also have over two years of experience counseling students and professionals with resume, cover letter, and other professional document creation. I use modeling, guided practice, and specific feedback so students understand not just what to improve, but how to improve it.

A typical lesson includes goal-setting, focused skill work, hands-on practice, and clear next steps. I like to start each session with an agenda, with time to introduce new concepts that are scaffolded by previously learned concepts and an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and put skills into practice.

What sets me apart is my ability to make complex concepts accessible while maintaining high academic standards. I combine rigor with patience and encouragement, helping students grow into confident, independent thinkers and writers.

Lessons are personalized for elementary, secondary, and college students, as well as adults seeking academic or professional writing support.
