About Ryan

Experienced international music educator offering lessons in music theory, composition, notation, score reading and creative musicianship. Lessons are tailored for beginners, ABRSM students, songwriters and developing musicians seeking stronger musical understanding, creativity and confidence in reading, writing and analysing music.

About the lesson

My approach to music theory teaching is practical, creative and student-focused. I aim to help students not only understand musical concepts, but also apply them confidently through listening, analysis, reading, writing and composition exercises. Lessons are designed to build strong musical foundations while keeping learning engaging and relevant to each student’s goals and interests.

I teach music theory through a combination of:

guided explanation,
interactive exercises,
score reading and analysis,
ear training concepts,
composition activities,
notation and writing practice,
and real musical examples from different styles and genres.

Lessons are adapted to the student’s level, whether they are complete beginners, preparing for ABRSM examinations, developing composition skills, or looking to strengthen their overall musicianship.

A typical lesson lasts around 60 minutes and may include:

theory instruction,
practical written exercises,
composition or creative tasks,
analysis of musical works,
and personalised feedback and review.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music and have achieved ABRSM Grade 7 Music Theory. I also have experience teaching music within international school environments in Thailand, working with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. My background in music education, performance, and creative practice allows me to create lessons that are both structured and encouraging.

students preparing for ABRSM music theory examinations,
aspiring composers and songwriters,
