About Charlotte

I am an actor and published writer who trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). My two five-star plays, OH, CALM DOWN and ALMOST ADULT, can be purchased at Waterstones.

Since graduating, I have worked across screen and theatre. My work has been received critical acclaim over 12 publications, has been featured in THE TIMES, PLAYBILL and on SKY. My solo show, ALMOST ADULT, received OffWestEnd's OffComm Award.

I now tutor students in both performance and public speaking. I have noticed that the skills we are taught as actors are incredibly useful for anyone who would like to improve their ability and confidence in communicating. I have been tutoring children and teenagers for several years as well as facilitating adult acting classes. Alongside my private clients, I am a tutor on a public speaking and debating panel in which give tutors individualised, quick-fire feedback on their public speaking. I also founded the National Youth Theatre Play-reading Group in which actors meet weekly to read a brand new play. I specialise in one-to-one tutoring and have students from age 8-17 who are all gaining confidence and technique through their tailored lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons vary depending on the needs of the specific student.

PLAYWRITING: Beginners: If you are right at the beginning of your playwriting journey, we will start with simple exercises that help put pen to paper and start writing. I will teach you how to structure a short scene and I will encourage you to bring new material each week. Advanced: For those who are more advanced and have bigger projects they are already working on, the session would be tailored towards writing realistic dialogue, creating an overall structure that is engaging and any individual goals the writer has. The "Inner Critic": Often, the biggest barrier to writing is the 'inner critic'. Almost every writer hears the internal voice telling them their idea is silly or not good enough. We will combat overcoming any beliefs that may be blocking you as writer.

CREATIVE WRITING FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS: I also do tutoring for children and teenagers who want to explore creative writing. This is a rewarding skill that is often left out of English Literature education (especially for teenagers). These sessions consist of exploring creative writing through different genres with an introduction to literary devices, dialogue writing, poetry writing and structure.
