Before we commence on any lessons, I give my students a brief explanation on the Syllabus and how the different lessons have been structured. I find out from them how they would like feedback and incorporate that with the feedback method I already have in place.
I never fall into the trap of the lessons being more like a conversation and not enough like a lesson. Most of my students chose individual lessons, as they wants to spend more time listening to / talking to a teacher with better pronunciation than what they are used to. I like humor, which I will incorporate in all the lessons. I always make sure my students do most of the talking.
