About Anne
I’m an experienced teacher and former Head of Physics and Head of Science. I have 12 years of experience in the classroom in both an inner city comprehensive and a top grammar school. Alongside this I have over 15 years of experience as a private tutor with 1000s of hours both in person and online.

• Institute Of Education PGCE Physics, recipient of Dangoor Scholarship for exceptional performance.
• Strong track record of helping students achieve strong academic outcomes across a range of ages and abilities.
• Skilled at adapting teaching approaches to suit different learning styles, neurodiversities and educational backgrounds. For example, I have extensive experience working with students for whom English is an additional language, and have supported students transferring between schools, curricula and educational systems.
• Strong communicator who values regular and constructive communication with both students and parents.
• Able to provide guidance on examination preparation, subject choices, university applications and wider academic progression.

*Teaching Approach*
I believe the most effective tuition is highly individualised. Before tutoring begins, I take time to understand the circumstances behind the request for support and what the student and their parent(s)/guardian(s) hope to achieve. This allows me to develop a clear framework for our work together and ensure sessions remain focused on meaningful progress.
Building a strong rapport with students is central to my approach. I aim to create a positive, supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves. Lessons are engaging and interactive, helping to foster curiosity, maintain motivation and develop confidence.
Sessions are adapted to each student's strengths, areas for development, interests and academic objectives. I provide clear explanations of challenging concepts and use questioning and discussion to encourage deeper understanding and critical thinking.
Regular formative assessment helps me monitor progress, identify misconceptions and refine the focus of future sessions. Alongside subject knowledge, I place strong emphasis on developing confidence, independent learning habits and effective examination technique, equipping students with the skills needed for long-term success.
*Lesson Format*
• Online lessons are typically one hour in length, although I am happy to arrange longer or shorter sessions to suit individual requirements.
• Lessons are usually delivered through Google Meet with interactive digital whiteboards such as Miro to support collaboration, problem-solving and engagement. I also use interactive online simulations to illustrate concepts and allow students to investigate the relationship between theory and real world effects.
• Resources and lesson materials can be shared electronically to support revision and independent study between sessions. I am happy to set homework if the client wishes. If submitted at least 24h before the next session, I mark the work and use the information from this to fine tune the following lesson.
• After each lesson I provide a brief update to parents about the content of the lesson, any homework set and the plan for the next session.
• By arrangement, I offer intensive in-person tuition for students seeking accelerated progress or focused exam preparation. While based in Belfast, I can travel to clients in other locations to deliver extended revision or catch-up sessions, including full-day programmes during weekends and school holidays.

I work primarily with students aged 11–18 studying KS3 courses and GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A Level qualifications. I also support university applicants preparing for admissions assessments and interviews. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring across a range of qualifications and exam boards, including:
• GCSE and Double Award Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology): AQA, Edexcel, Edexcel IGCSE, WJEC and CCEA
• AS and A Level Physics: OCR, AQA, Edexcel and CCEA
• International Baccalaureate: Physics
• Examiner Experience: A Level Physics Examiner (CCEA)
• University Preparation: ESAT support and mock Oxbridge interviews for Natural Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Physics
