About Thomas
I am a first-year PhD in mathematics at the University of Cambridge, where I also teach as a supervisor for undergraduates. I completed my full education at Cambridge (BA, 2024; MMath/Part III, 2025), specialising in machine learning and statistics. My expertise is grounded in recent, top exam performance in STEP: I achieved a Grade 1 in STEP II and a Grade S in STEP III (2022). I know first-hand the demands of the modern exam and the specific preparation required to succeed. Uniquely, I also possess an insider’s perspective on the admissions process, having participated in Cambridge undergraduate interviews. I know exactly what interviewers are looking for, not just in terms of correct answers, but in the mathematical maturity and communication style that secures an offer.

My teaching methodology mirrors the rigour of a Cambridge supervision. Drawing on my experience teaching second-year undergraduates, I don’t just teach you how to solve problems but how to think and write like a university mathematician. We focus on (a) live problem-solving, allowing me to critique in real-time your mathematical thought process and ideas, and; (b) disciplined solution writing, where I analyse and mark prepared solutions to a curated set of questions I set for the week. In addition, we discuss question selection, time-management and how to maximise marks on exam day. Typical length of lessons: 60-90 mins (as preferred)
