Super Prof

Herbert is one of our best Sociology tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Herbert

Over the course of my studies I have taken a range of modules dealing with European politics, history, philosophy, international relations and economics. This, coupled with my interest in political theory makes me confident I can provide help with a range of challenges within the broadly understood 'engaged humanities'. I specialise in political theory; I am in fact shortly beginning a PhD to research state formation and ideology, but would be happy to help understand a range of issues.

About the lesson

Every challenge requires a dedicated solution but I feel the best way to help people cope with coursework is to make them understand the core concepts and issues and embolden them to forward their own judgements on the matter. To this end I favour a question-and-answer style of tutoring whereby one would arrive at their own conclusions. I would however be delighted to fill other roles, such as lecturer, proof-reader or researcher.

Review

All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Herbert.

Herbert's response
Right, so the notes that I had for the lesson were:

Is anarchy a lack of the state: reflecting on Rojava
Is anarchist democracy a contradiction in terms
is the attainment of sovereignity in conflict with anarchism
National anarchism?

postmodernism reinforcing sovereignity, Dugin's sovereignity of discourse

On the importance of "anarchist leaders"

Ziziek's theory of lack, reification of lack,
lack of a state
is anarchy a thing, is it an event

only democracies are 'doers' of stability? Bernard Henri-Levi

democracy as an event vs. democracy as a system of rule
Mnecius Moldbug - NRx, new monarchism (blog Grey Mirror on substack)
'manufacturing consent' of Walter Lippmann and Chomsky's critisicsm of that

Kosselleck
Assymetricality of terms

And you would benefit from looking up Nestor Makhno and Spanish Anarchists during the Civil War for more examples of or attempts at anarchy. Then there is 'The radical patience of radical democracy: beyond Zizek's lack' by Romand Coles that is directly relevant. Good luck with your work, was great talking to you.

Hubert is a skilful communicator and a true empath, sensing immediately when the student is loosing focus or not following the material haha =D I relied on his services to get me up to speed with the Reformation and I can say that he certainly has a deep understanding of history, politics, economics, historical theories, religious doctrine and a host of other things that I can't even name. But not only is he extremely knowledgeable: you can really benefit from his knowledge as he communicates it so well. For the first time in a long time I really felt like I was learning something and understanding it. A great feeling for sure and it was all enabled by this guy so check him out :)

Hubert is an exceptional teacher and has helped me immensely. He basically carried me through all the material and helped me research all the relevant topics. When it came to write my essays, a task which I had no confidence in on account of past failures, he really put in the work to make me submit something I was proud of to call my own. Hubert gets my 100% trust and seal of approval.

Herbert and I took a history module together and I can fully vouch for his passion for the subject. I often saw him at lectures and even seminars from other courses, sometimes as exotic as Italian studies. I could hardly point you in the direction of someone more universally rounded, with almost encyclopaedic knowledge and frightfully driven, however despite those impressive qualities Herbert was always very modest and ready to extend a helping hand at short notice to anyone who needed it. I personally benefited from this generosity of his when he proofread my essay and offered comments that enabled me to achieve the next level of clarity and precision and culminated in me achieving a first, on no small part thanks to his guidance. I could not recommend him more and I am certain he is the best man for the job.

When I first met him I was in dire straits, struggling to structure my summative essay on Weber and Mill. He not only helped me organise my thoughts, teaching valuable techniques that I would use many times over in the coming years, but also genuinely advanced my understanding of this and other topics through his interrogative method. Honestly, anything this guy asks for in exchange for a lesson is still a bargain, because he not only enables you to get the job done but leaves you with all the tools and the knowledge how to use them :)
