About Kali
As an actor I have performed on stages all over the world. During this time I also lead drama workshops for students, teaching everything from Shakespeare to dance. I have taught school and college students in eleven European countries as well as most of the fifty States of America. I took a break from acting in 2017 to have my son, and while I raised him I completed two university degrees in English Literature, winning multiple prizes and scholarships for my essay writing. In 2022 I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a masters in American Literature, and now I am here to help you accomplish these things too. Whether you just want to get through GCSE English with a decent grade or you think you could benefit from intensive mentoring through your UCAS applications, I can help you elevate your writing to make it stand out.

During our first lesson I will ask you a little bit about your hopes and ambitions. I'll ask you to think about where you want to be a year from now, and how you would like your academic life to be different. Together we'll formulate a picture of who you are now versus who you will become in the course of your tutoring journey. After that, if you would like to proceed, I will formulate a plan to transform your reading and writing and get you through your GCSEs, A-Levels, University applications or any English language-based goals you hope to achieve.
My teaching puts a focus on entertainment. I believe that reading should be as fun as watching your favourite TV series. So, you might find it challenging to study and write about a text if you're not really feeling it. I can help with that. The way I approach essay writing is to find the one good thing, the one character or place, image or sentence in that book that you think is actually interesting and figure out why. What does it remind you of? Where can we make connections with other books, movies or shows, and how can we bring in these other examples to shine a light on the set text? How can we make it enjoyable? This is called lateral thinking; finding unlikely connections where other people may not see them.
Whether you're trying to get focused in time for a daunting exam or just want to learn how to read and interpret text as a scholar, I can help you improve the way you read and write. When you work with me, your writing will become clean, clear, incisive and even entertaining to read.
