About Lottie

I graduated this summer from Cambridge and now work as a charity outreach professional. My previous work in education is varied and extensive, giving me a wide range of approaches and skills to draw upon. I have worked as a reading mentor for 11 - 12 year olds (UK year 7 students), developing their reading comprehension, pronunciation and critical thinking skills. I have also previously tutored higher ability GCSE English candidates, helping them to secure those top grades by both encouraging an expansive reading palette, and assiduously using past papers and mark schemes to tailor their writing to the curriculum. I have previously also worked in pastoral care, and this has made me passionate about seeing and nurturing each child with a whole person approach.

About the lesson

My teaching offers both an exciting and rigorous approach, and I aim to engage my students with a wide range of books, poetry, film, theatre and more. English doesn't JUST mean the classics - it's everywhere in the world around us! In the first lesson, I aim to undertake a detailed assessment of every student which allows me to put together a detailed study plan. Every student is different and I take care to tailor everything to their needs. Having gone through the UK exam system myself, achieving grade 9s at GCSE and A* at A level, I am knowledgeable of the requirements of the grading system, and can help students to achieve the highest levels through a combination of broad knowledge and familiarity with the grading systems. I also am equipped to assist those looking to gain admission to the best universities, having gone through the Oxbridge admissions system. My lessons will have a balance of written assignments, reading comprehension, and tutorial - style discussions.
