About Nurjan

I am a CELTA certified teacher with more than 15 years experience teaching English as a foreign language. Ek is heeltemal tweetalig en kan net so goed in Afrikaans onderwys gee. Apart from my initial training I also received valuable and ongoing training and support at the schools I taught at over the years. At my last school I was there for eight years and this school including all the teachers, received the prestigious Aequals international accreditation of excellence as a language learning institution while I was there. I am very proud of that. This happened shortly before the pandemic. My most valuable experience over the years has been my students, who taught me as much as I have taught them. I have done many lessons both private and in classes teaching all levels of General English as well as specialized courses like IELTS preparation. My favorite levels to teach are lower levels to Intermediate.

About the lesson

I usually teach English as a second or foreign language but I also teach Afrikaans in the same way described below. I use an interactive approach in my lessons. So that means we chat, have fun, do theme-based lessons and practice together with you doing most of the work. I step in only where necessary. First, I see what your language needs are. This happens during your free lesson. We also discuss your language goals and we start your learning process in this first free lesson. I design follow-up lessons based on my findings. These lessons are about life, work, play and other areas of interest but are also very specific, targeting whatever you need, whether it's your articulation, your pronunciation, your vocabulary or grammar needs or anything else related to your language learning. We always start with the most important areas and then work forward. I offer the following lesson types. Conversation. We chat about different topics. This is designed so that you have a safe place to just be who you are and not feel shy about your level of English or anything else for that matter. We chat as friends and this allows you to get comfortable with the language. If you want and need me to give you feedback, I can do this. If you just want to practice and have great conversation, I can do this too. Lessons may include a listening or reading component. Or both. Second lesson type: Targeted lessons. Beginner to Intermediate Levels. These are based on your specific needs. Perhaps it's vocabulary or listening, or there's an area of grammar you just don't understand and it's getting in the way of you interacting in English with confidence. We fit in the missing pieces of your language learning puzzle in these lessons. Lessons are usually theme-based, structured, interactive and include some useful vocabulary and have a listening or reading component as well as lots of speaking and some writing. Third lesson Type: Keep it simple. Sometimes it gets too much and you need a simple approach to understand something specific. This type of lesson has a loose structure and I usually customize this lesson depending on your needs. Whether you want to challenge yourself and practice your English with a native speaker who can give you feedback on your level of English if you need it or if you are a beginner and don't know where to start, I can design lessons that will allow you to level up your English so that you are more comfortable and confident conversing with others.
