About Edward

Hi! I'm Edward, a CELTA-qualified native English tutor with 5000+ hours of online teaching experience to 500+ past students. I have been teaching classes and coaching professionals for the last eight years, specialising in coaching for IELTS, Academic English, Business English, English for Specific Purposes and migration/relocation.
My present students come from all backgrounds, countries, age ranges and levels of English; whether business professionals looking to improve their international communication skills or school pupils trying to get to the top of their class, I have helped dozens of students make the breakthroughs they have been searching for. From advanced level students perfecting their grammar and expanding their vocabulary to near-beginners wanting to raise their confidence levels and improve their conversational skills, I have helped them all on their journey through the English language.
My knowledge of languages, linguistics and philology is extensive, but I am keen on keeping things accessible, relevant and fun when I teach.
I am a trained multi-linguist, speaking both French and Spanish, with a BA degree (2:1) in Hispanic Studies at the University of Nottingham and a CELTA qualification from the University of Sheffield's acclaimed ELTC.

About the lesson

My students are all different and so are my classes. At first I aim to discover the motives of my students' wishes to improve their English, followed by discovering which aspects of English they need to work on most. At the same time, I find out which methods of teaching (conversation, written exercises, videos, texts, etc,) and which subject materials are most appropriate for them, all while being aware of various cultural differences and personal situations.
Often I find that my students know what they want and don't want, so I like to give them equal input into the planning and content of the lessons.
I use a range of methodology depending on the student and the aspects of English being taught. I offer intensive English, but in a relaxed and informal atmosphere to ensure the student can fulfil their maximum potential in a short time.
I teach General English to all ages (8-80), but specialise in IELTS, Academic English and Professional/Business English.
I can also help young native speakers with their English Language and Literature up to GCSE.
Lessons can be short (25-45 mins) or long (60-90 mins) but should always be as regular as possible and not too infrequent - again, this all depends on the student's situation.
My rates are changeable depending on lesson length and location/medium. Just message me to ask me more!
I have tutored private students and taught online classes to up to 15 students at one time. My students and client schools are spread all over the world, from South America to Europe to the Far East, all with different motivations for improving their English.
