About Michelle
I am an ESOL teacher with 11+ years of experience. There aren't many things I love more than language and teaching. I believe there is nothing more empowering than teaching English, enabling students to communicate and thrive. I've lived and taught English as a second language in the Dominican Republic and Zambia, while also having visited and worked in Haiti, The Cook Islands, and Fiji. I hold the following certifications: -International TEFL and TESOL Training Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages -International TEFL and TESOL Training Certification in Teaching Business English -International TEFL and TESOL Training Certification in Teaching English to Young Learners

My teaching methods vary depending on my students' needs. I try to meet individuals where they are, while maintaining an appropriate level of rigor so their English improves. I have experience teaching students from all over the world and of all speaking levels. I utilize games, photos, videos, and other realia to augment learning. With me as your tutor, a typical lesson plan follows the loose format of: Engage > Study > Activate. I use pictures, videos, games, and conversation to engage students by getting them thinking and speaking in English. The "meat and potatoes" of my lessons is the study phase, where learning objectives are identified and executed, but always at the pace dictated by the student. And finally, the activation phase, where all new and existing language is meant to be activated, with a stronger focus on fluency than accuracy. I'm happy to meet with you, talk about what YOU NEED from our sessions, and go from there!
