About Angus

I have 5 years of experience privately tutoring a variety of subjects to a variety of students - many of whom have had special learning needs or are learning English as an additional language. I have delivered courses on specific subjects (primarily English Literature/ Language, History, Politics or Spanish), but have also given more general lessons on essay writing skills, exam preparation, revision and personal statements.

Many of the students I've worked with have achieved the goals set at the beginning of our sessions - whether that's obtaining or exceeding the grades they need or significantly improving their literacy skills.

I currently work as a tutor part time for an education charity called IntoUniversity, delivering lessons and 1:1 support to primary and secondary students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

About the lesson

Every student is unique, and I approach tutoring by forming an understanding of each individual student’s needs with an initial consultation and free lesson. I then tailor a unique programme to help them meet their goals, which we will set in the first session. I am able to offer a wide range of tutoring, from help with homework or coursework, to exam preparation and revision, to more extensive programmes relating to the school curriculum. I also specialise in helping students to improve their essay writing skills and exam preparation for any subject.

My lessons are geared towards students students of any age who are keen to improve their work in written subjects. I have a bank of resources to draw on to ensure that lessons are fun and engaging, and will utilise videos, activities and games if appropriate to enhance learning.

Owing to my work for Into University, I feel that I have a thorough understanding of the current national curriculum at all key stages and.

I have experience of working with children with dyslexia and other SEND needs, and enjoy helping them to find methods for overcoming challenges that the study of essay based subjects might present them with.

I can offer tutoring to secondary school students in all Humanities subjects, and all subjects at primary level, as well as lessons for people learning English as an additional language.

More than anything, I passionately believe that the role of a tutor is to empower students, and help them to find the tools they need to learn and be successful as independent learners.
