About Alex

Hello and welcome! My name is Aleksandr, and I am a TEFL-certified English tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Merced.

I help students improve their speaking, writing, and comprehension, whether it’s for everyday life, school, or work. I have always been passionate about learning from different cultures and connecting with people from around the world. As an immigrant myself, I know what it feels like to adapt to a new country and communicate in a new environment. My studies and experiences have taken me from studying abroad in the Caribbean to conducting anthropological research in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru and working at an International Office, where I supported students from around the world. I also have a year of experience teaching English both online and in person.

I speak English and Russian fluently and am conversational in Spanish. My lessons are friendly, patient, and tailored to your goals. I enjoy bringing my passion for travel, anthropology, and different cultures into my lessons to make learning English both useful and interesting.

About the lesson

A Lesson Plan Built Around You

Every student learns English for a different reason, so I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. Before we start, I tailor my teaching to your goals, whether you want to speak confidently, write clearly, read with ease, or improve all of the above.

What a typical lesson looks like:

1. Goal-focused start. We begin with what you want to achieve and where you are now, so every minute of the lesson is useful to you.

2. Engaging online lesson. I teach each topic in a clear, simple way, and I keep it interactive. I ask questions throughout, so you're never just listening.

3. Real-life practice. You'll practice through role-play scenarios like ordering at a restaurant, interviewing for a job, or making small talk. I'm there to guide and support you, and I correct mistakes gently as we go.

4. Worksheets, when helpful. Sometimes we'll work through exercises together to reinforce grammar, vocabulary, or reading and writing skills.

5. Simple homework. At the end of each lesson, I'll give you a short, manageable assignment so you can keep practicing and see steady progress between sessions.

Why my lessons are different:

I'm a TEFL-certified tutor with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology. I've lived and worked in other countries, so I understand how challenging it can be to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture. I'm also a Russian speaker, so I know firsthand what it takes to master English as a second language. My lessons are relaxed and encouraging, and I make sure you always know what we're working on and why.
