About Calvin

I have over 7 years experience in teaching Spanish from levels A1 (Complete begginers) to C1 (Advanced). I currently teach years 9-11 in secondary school, however, I have plenty of experience teaching from 5 years old to A level and Adults. My teaching background is primarily secondary schools and universities in the UK and Spain, but don't worry, I won't make you call me sir :)

About the lesson

As close to a native speaker as you will find (having lived in Spain and Colombia for over 7 years), whilst still being a talented tea-maker (Born and raised in the UK).

*Classes include access to the digital book. If you want to buy the physical book, that's fine too, but not necessary as all materials will be provided.

*Classes will range in size from one student to six students maximum. This will greatly help students with more opportunities to speak and listen in paired/group activities. (If you would like private classes, the one on one price is £15. But I highly recommend the group classes for the pair work).

A typical lesson will involve me sharing something interesting with you that I "found" or simply "came across" during the week. As you read/listen/investigate you'll naturally question/struggle with certain language elements but will overcome them from the context and sheer desire to continue and share your thoughts on the topic... that's when you realise the trap... the carefully selected grammar in the article that you struggled with in previous classes that you thought had gone unnoticed... The fact that you were using it, or at least attempting to use it communicatively to share your opinion Mwahahaha.

Fear not, those devious traps are merely warming activities to get you thinking in Spanish and to warm up the reading, listening and speaking muscles that we will need during the class. Like almost all teacher's on superprof state, you lesson will be tailored to your tastes... and that is true for my classes too. I will certainly prepare activities that I know you will like based around what you want to learn, however, I won't be afraid to tell you what are your weaknesses in regards to the Spanish language and work my hardest to improve upon them with you.

I loved my classes with profe Calvin :) He was my tutor in Barcelona for nearly 2 years and helped me to prepare for my B2 DELE. He has a wonderful sense of humour and, frankly, the patience of a saint.
I had done my Spanish GCSE almost a decade before I started classes with Calvin, so I was a shakey A2 at best, but he taught me so much, motivated and encouraged me and because of him I can now attend university here in Spain.
