About Khristina

Dedicated to Unlocking Every Student's Potential

My journey in education began 17 years ago with the simple belief that every child can learn to read, write, and communicate effectively with the right tools and support. Over the course of nearly two decades as a general English Language Arts Teacher and Special Education (SPED) English Resource Teacher, I have dedicated my career to working with students in grades 4–12 who learn differently.

I know firsthand the frustration a student feels when their student falls behind their peers, and I know the worry parents face when trying to find the right support. I transitioned into private tutoring to provide the intensive, one-on-one intervention that crowded classrooms simply cannot offer.

A Diverse Career Built on Adaptive Teaching

True specialized education requires a deep understanding of cognitive diversity. Throughout my 17 years in the classroom, I have successfully designed and adapted curriculum for a vast spectrum of learners:

Twice-Exceptional & Gifted Learners: Helping brilliant minds break through hidden processing bottlenecks like dyslexia, ADHD, or executive dysfunction.

Resource & Inclusion Students: Scaffolding complex grade-level middle and high school texts for students with IEPs and 504 plans.

Cognitive & Developmental Delays: Tailoring foundational literacy, functional language skills, and life-changing phonetic fluency for children with intellectual disabilities and IQs ranging from 60 to 70.

This extensive background means I don't get overwhelmed by complex learning profiles. I meet students exactly where they are without judgment, break daunting concepts into small, achievable victories, and celebrate their progress every step of the way.

Grounded in the Science of Reading

Teaching an older student to read requires specialized, research-backed methodologies. I am fully trained in Reading by Design, a systematic, multi-sensory structured literacy program that aligns directly with the Science of Reading. By explicitly unlocking phonology, sound-symbol relationships, and advanced morphology (Latin and Greek roots), I give secondary students the keys to decode complex academic vocabulary and build automatic reading fluency.

My goal is to provide targeted, specialized intervention that goes far beyond standard homework help. I bring my 17 years of diagnostic experience, classroom patience, and structured literacy background directly to our digital sessions to give your child the individual attention they deserve. I welcome the opportunity to support your student, and I look forward to working at a pace that builds their confidence and steady, independent success.

What to Expect: Targeted, Data-Driven Literacy Intervention

Traditional tutoring that simply helps with homework isn't enough when a student struggles with reading or language mechanics. They need a systematic approach that identifies the exact root cause of their reading gaps and explicitly bridges those pieces together.

With 17 years of experience as a general English Language Arts Teacher and Special Education (SPED) English Resource Teacher, I specialize in transforming struggling readers into confident, independent learners. Throughout my career, I have successfully adapted my teaching strategies across a vast array of learners—ranging from Gifted and Talented (GT) students with twice-exceptional profiles to children with cognitive delays.

My lessons are highly structured, deeply empathetic, and entirely tailored to how your child's brain processes language. Whether your child has an IEP, a 504 plan, diagnosed dyslexia, or is simply missing critical reading foundations, I design a learning environment where they feel safe, supported, and capable of succeeding.

My Approach to Learning

Pre-Session Parent Questionnaire: I send a comprehensive intake questionnaire to parents before our first official meeting so I can thoroughly review any existing IEP goals, 504 plans, school report cards, or specific learning concerns.

Diagnostic 1-Session Intake: We don't waste time guessing where to start. Our very first session acts as a comprehensive, stress-free diagnostic intake to pinpoint your child’s exact independent, instructional, and frustration reading levels.

Evidence-Based Dyslexia Intervention: I am fully trained in the Reading by Design curriculum—a systematic, multi-sensory structured literacy program. I explicitly teach phonology, sound-symbol relationships, and advanced morphology (Latin and Greek roots) to unlock decoding and automaticity for older students.

Secondary ELA Expertise (Grades 4–12): Teaching reading to a middle or high schooler requires a different approach than teaching a first grader. I specialize in helping older students bridge the gap between basic decoding and complex comprehension, academic vocabulary, writing mechanics, and executive functioning skills.

Built-In Mastery Checks: You will never have to wonder if your investment is working. I use integrated progress monitoring and informal mastery checks directly inside our lessons. I track the data on word recognition, fluency, and comprehension shifts so we can adapt our approach in real time.

️ Virtual Classroom Success

Online learning shouldn't feel distant or passive. I utilize a robust digital suite—including interactive visual decks, virtual letter arcs, and digital whiteboards—to keep sessions highly engaging and interactive. My goal is to reduce student anxiety from the very first welcome call, building a strong working relationship with your child while providing you with transparent, data-driven feedback after every session. Let's work together to build the lasting literacy foundations your child deserves.
